TAZRIA/METZORA | T26 TORAH PORTION THOUGHTS

Scripture ScribblesShalom my friends and Welcome to Scripture Scribbles – my notes and thoughts on the weekly Torah portion. This week we have a double portion, Tazria/Metzora meaning she will conceive and Metozora meaning Leper.

As always, test everything to the Word, keep what is good and throw out the rest. Remember, we are all on a journey and I am certainly no authority on anything.  Honestly, I’m just stumbling along like everyone else, doing the best I can. 😉

📖 1 Thessalonians 5:21 … but test everything; hold fast what is good.
TAZRIA/METZORA LEVITICUS 12:1 – 15:33

Lev 12 This chapter is all about the purification after childbirth.

Many people use this section to show that YHWH feels differently about boys/men than He does about girls/women, because of the purification times. However, this simply isn’t true. Our Father loves men and women equally. So then why do you think the purification time for having a girl is exactly double what it is for a boy? The answer might surprise you at how simple it is – it’s because there are 2 – mother and daughter. So it is 1 week and 33 days for each female. Makes total sense, right?

Lev 13 This chapter is about leprosy.

👣  This is another topic that can really make people feel bad. I used to dread this section of the Torah portion because in our English reading, it isn’t very clear about what this is. Since I suffer from psoriasis, people used to say that it was the Father’s judgement. However, this is simply not true. In this section, we are not discussing skin diseases we are discussing a temporary affliction that happens superficially on someone’s skin and this is called tzara’at.
If you notice there isn’t ever a mention of anything to cure this affliction nor is it mentioned to pray for the victim. Why? Because this is a spiritual affliction – a judgment from YHWH.

This affliction (tzara’at) had no cure other than the Father releasing them from their temporary affliction. Example: Miriam speaks against Moses Num 12:1-16, Exodus 4:6 and Exodus 4:30.

Lev 14 To become clean you needed 2 clean birds so that you can kill one and put the blood in a bowl over fresh water. Then you dip the live one with cedarwood, scarlet yarn and hyssop in the blood over the fresh water. Fresh water would be living water meaning it is flowing and constantly renewing. So in order to be clean, you needed blood and water.

👣  Living water is very important to YHWH’s people. We see it used in sacrifices, making the unclean clean again, baptism etc. Messiah is living water. John 4:10, 7:38

So, we are afflicted by our sins. BUT, Yeshua came to be the sacrifice for our judgement. John 19:34 Yeshua was pierced and out came blood and water. Blood and living water…we are made clean.

👣  In this day and age, we don’t see tzara’at. One thought as to why is that we don’t have the priesthood or the temple at this time.

Lev 15 This chapter covers bodily discharges that make us unclean.

I get a lot of emails with questions about Lev 15:19-30, so I want to take a moment to go over these verses with you. Let’s begin with Lev 15:19-24. These verses are about a normal menstrual cycle.

📖 Lev 15:19-21  “When a woman has a discharge, and the discharge in her body is blood, she shall be in her menstrual impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening. 20 And everything on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean. Everything also on which she sits shall be unclean. 21 And whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening.

📖 Lev 15:22-24  22 And whoever touches anything on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening. 23 Whether it is the bed or anything on which she sits, when he touches it he shall be unclean until the evening. 24 And if any man lies with her and her menstrual impurity comes upon him, he shall be unclean seven days, and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean

Now let’s look at the next set.

📖 Lev 15:25-26 “If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, not at the time of her menstrual impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond the time of her impurity, all the days of the discharge she shall continue in uncleanness. As in the days of her impurity, she shall be unclean. 26 Every bed on which she lies, all the days of her discharge, shall be to her as the bed of her impurity. And everything on which she sits shall be unclean, as in the uncleanness of her menstrual impurity.

📖 Lev 15:27-30 27 And whoever touches these things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening. 28 But if she is cleansed of her discharge, she shall count for herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. 29 And on the eighth day she shall take two turtledoves or two pigeons and bring them to the priest, to the entrance of the tent of meeting. 30 And the priest shall use one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for her before the Lord for her unclean discharge.

This section is about bleeding that is outside the normal monthly cycle. An example of this would be the woman with the issue of blood.

It is important to note that this section is in the context of the Temple. It was very important to know what made you unclean and how you could get clean again before going to the Temple. Because we don’t have the Temple or the Levitical Priesthood, we are unable to follow this today. HOWEVER, if they built the Temple tomorrow and we had the Priesthood then it would be very important to know this.

TAZRIA/METZORA ISAIAH 66:1-24

It is important to remember that the Father’s ways are non negotiable. We really only have 2 ways of doing things, our way or the Father’s way. That’s it. What are you going to choose?

But this is the one to whom I will look:

he who is humble and contrite in spirit

    and trembles at my word.

Isa 66:2
TAZRIA/METZORA LUKE 2:22-35; MARK 1:35-45

Luke 2:22-35 Here we see the purification laws being observed by Yeshua’s parents.

Mark 1:40-45 Here we are seeing Yeshua heal the man from his affliction. This was the tzara’at that Yeshua was healing, not just any skin disease.

📖 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.  ~Psalms 19:14

📖 I have stored up YOUR Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you ~Psalms 119:11
